New York, NY – The APBD Research Foundation shares with deep regret the passing of our co-founder Michael Weiss on September 6, 2025 from the consequences of APBD.

In 2005, along with his brothers Gregory (who passed away in 2018) and Emil, Michael co-founded the APBD Research Foundation. Motivated by their three APBD diagnoses and the lack of resources for this ultra-rare disease, the Weiss brothers committed themselves to advancing research, finding treatments, and improving the lives of patients and families impacted by the disorder.
Beyond his work with the Foundation, Michael was known as a businessman and – especially – as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He frequently referred to his four grandchildren lovingly as his “four diamonds.” His generosity and warmth touched everyone who knew him, and his legacy of love, service, and commitment to others will continue to inspire.
